Red Light Therapy
Red Light Therapy (RLT) goes back to the early 90's scientific experiments by NASA that originated with LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). RLT was used by scientists to help grow plants in space. The scientists found that the intense light from red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) helped promote growth and photosynthesis of plant cells.
The most exciting thing is the original experiments by NASA with their LED Red Light Therapy that began in space are now being used for astronauts. Astronauts perform physically demanding work in a challenging environment that includes among other hazards microgravity, which is known to have an adverse effect on bone and muscle to the extent that it places an increased risk for musculoskeletal injury.
NASA then joined forces with industry leaders in medicine to develop LED Red Light Therapy. They discovered the LED red light can penetrate the body tissue deeper. RLT was then studied for its potential application in medicine, more specifically to find out RLT can increase energy inside the human cells. This made it a perfect treatment for weight loss, crush injuries, badly burned victims, cancer chemotherapy and radiation treatment complications- all areas where large body areas are involved.
Red Light Therapy works by feeding LED red light energy into the cells that strengthen the mitochondria. The mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell-its where the cell's energy is created. The energy-carrying molecule found in the cells of all living things is called ATP (adenosine triphosphate). By increasing the function of the mitochondria using RLT, a cell can make more ATP. With more energy, cells can function more efficiently, rejuvenate themselves and repair damage.
Ever since the initial experiments in space, there have been hundreds of additional medical benefits.
- Promoted wound healing and tissue repair
- Improves hair growth
- Stimulates healing of slow-healing wounds, like diabetic foot ulcers
- Reduces psoriasis lesions
- Aids with short-term relief of pain and morning stiffness in people with rheumatoid arthritis
- Reduces some of the side effects of cancer treatments
- Brightens complexion and builds collagen
- Diminish fine lines and wrinkles
- Helps to mend sun damage
- Prevents recurring cold sores from herpes simplex virus infections
- Improves the health of joints in people with degenerative osteoarthritis of the knee
- Helps diminish scars
- Relieves pain and inflammation
- Diminishing fat pockets that produce cellulite
- Boasting metabolism and curbing appetite.
Red Light Therapy for Weight Loss
Red Light Therapy is completely natural and noninvasive and has proven to be an effective option for weight loss and changing the way your body looks. RLT can help people lose weight, tone the body, cut back on fat and cellulite, and control obesity.
Researcher shows RLT affects the adipocytes, which are the cells known to store fat, and essentially helps the body wash away lipids and fat cells. Red and near Infrared light waves travels to the fat cells in our body, adipocytes. Once they do, their combined efforts cause the toxin and fats to disperse and eventually exit the body through perspiration and excretion.
The effects of RLT also aids in weight loss by diminishing fat pockets that produce cellulite on the surface of the skin. Cellulite develops from a buildup of a combination of unhealthy collagen and elastin as well as excess fat in the skin layers. RLT replenishes collagen production by increasing the fibroblast growth factor. Not only are fibroblasts responsible for the production of collagen but it also increases its movement through the cellular walls, which ultimately tightens the skin. Also firming your skin while losing weight goes hand in hand to achieve the best-looking results and for that reason, RLT is a key aspect for the weight loss process.
Red Light Therapy fuels your muscle tissue. We all know we need sunlight to stay healthy. Research shows treatments with RLT also promotes the growth of healthy muscle tissue, or muscle hypertrophy, naturally increasing muscle size and bulk – as well as strength and decreases in muscle fatigue.
RLT also offers long-term benefits for future muscle health and development by targeting muscle stem cells called myosatellite cells. Like other types of stem cells, muscle stem cells remain in an undifferentiated state until activated, at which point they develop into specific types of muscle cells. Since light therapy enhances mitochondrial action, it also plays an important role in stimulating the growth of new muscle cells and tissue used to “speed up” the repair process following muscle injury or fatigue – improving overall muscle health and function in the long run.
Now with conclusive research, it is shown that RLT can indeed diminish the urge to eat. One study found RLT can control the hunger hormones in your body, namely leptin and ghrelin, and doing so to manage your weight. Leptin is the hormone that decreases your appetite, while ghrelin does the opposite by increasing appetite. By systematically controlling these hormones, you can control your eating habit in such a way to prevent the body from gaining fat. This is a healthy, non-invasive approach to control and maintain your weight, especially after you have lost a couple of pounds. We can conclude that clinical research and the accounts of many experts shows red and infrared light therapy is a natural, safe, non-invasive and pain-free alternative to losing fat compared to undergoing surgery among other types of laser treatment, which comes with unwanted side effects. For that reason, red light therapy should be one of the first considerations for fast loss and weight management.
Frequently asked Questions:
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING EACH SESSION?
During the treatment, you will be placed lying down on a treatment table. Special red light pads will be positioned in strategic places on your body as you simply enjoy a relaxing 20 minute session.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The unique light emitted from our device causes the fat cell membranes to temporarily alter the permeability of the cell wall. This brief change allows some of the fat contents to seep out to where it can then be processed by the body. The process also increases collagen and elastin in the skin while creating a slimmer appearance.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE FAT?
After being released, the fat is broken down into free fatty acids and glycerol and enters the blood stream. Once in the blood stream, the fatty acids can be either used as fuel or quickly eliminated by the body.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE FAT CELLS?
No harm is done to the fat cells. They simply shrink to a fraction of their original size.
WHAT AREA OF THE BODY CAN BE TREATED?
The treatment can be effectively used on essentially every part of he body where localized fat deposits exist that are resistant to diet and exercise. This includes the waist, hips, upper legs, thighs and upper arms.
HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Results are usually seen after just one treatment.
HOW LONG LASTING ARE THE RESULTS?
The results can be very long lasting. However, this method does not destroy fat cells but releases some of their contents. If your caloric intake is significantly higher than you require, your body will eventually store fat again. For this reason, we recommend a maintenance program of once or twice per month after the desired results are attained.
WHAT RISKS ARE INVOLVED?
There are no risks or side effects involved and it is a safe alternative to invasive procedures such as traditional liposuction or cool-sculpting.
ARE THER ANY CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR IT’S USE?
Although the treatment is very safe, there are the usual contraindications which include: Pregnancy, Active Cancer, Pacemake, HIV/AIDs, and Hepatitis C.
DO I HAVE TO FOLLOW A DIET?
No changes are required… but you can expect better results if you reduce your caloric intake somewhat and increase your water consumption.
DOES THIS THERAPY HELP WITH CELLULITE AND LOSE SKIN?
Clients undergoing this therapy have noticed an improvement with cellulite as well as skin tone and texture.
WHAT RESEARCH HAS BEEN DONE?
LipoMelt is based on over forty years of research starting with NASA experimentation and culminating with the aesthetic and orthopedic industries today. Following the recent discovery that 635 nm light has an effect on fat cells, this new technology has created an explosion in the body sculpting industry
